A loose gathering of stones dumped in a single location doesn’t make a building any more than people gathering into a building makes a church.
The way we can tell if we are really being the Church is by first taking what Jesus said seriously;
Matthew 18:16 “I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.”
This means the way to tell if Life’s Oasis is truly being the Church is to see if Hell is winning or losing. When we worship together, hell is losing. When we give ourselves away, hell is losing. When we pray for each other and love radically, hell is losing.
But Hell doesn’t just have to lose on Saturdays and Sundays. It can lose every day and the choice is yours and mine.
Being a community is then just as much about what we are doing when we are not together as it is when we are. We “huddle” on Saturday and Sunday so we can get the “play” but what kind of team gets the play to just go right back on the bench.
No, the Kingdom of God has no bench, everyone’s in the game.
Critical Question: At the end of the day, did Satan give up or did I?
